South India Yatra with Swamini Amritanandji

EVENT DESCRIPTION

Discover India’s astonishing cultural and spiritual richness on this wonderful 19-day journey through South India.

Commencing from Bangalore on 4th January 2020, this amazing yatra includes five of Chinmaya Mission’s South India Ashrams, Ramana Maharshi’s Ashram and other wonderful sacred sites.

In addition to the ashrams, the days will be filled with exploring India through her temples and ancient monuments, lively streets and rural landscapes. The tour also includes a 24-hour houseboat cruise on the backwaters of Kerala and a stay at Bandipur National Park. There will be teachings and meditation with Swamini Amritanadaji interspersed throughout the journey.

Itinerary

Day One – 4th January

On arrival in Bangalore, you will be welcomed and transferred to our hotel.
Overnight Bangalore.

Mysore Palace

Day Two – 5th January

Today we drive to Mysore, stopping on the way to visit Chinmaya’s Bangalore ashram. After lunch we will enjoy a guided tour of the ancient & wonderfully carved Somnathpur Temple. In the early evening, we will witness the splendor of the lighted palace. Overnight Mysore

Day Three – 6th January

Go on a guided tour of Chamundi Hill & Temple followed by a guided tour the astonishingly beautiful Maharaja’s Palace. In the afternoon, we will visit the vibrant fruit and flower market. Overnight Mysore

Day Four – 7th January

Today we have a short drive to Bandipur National Park. Enjoy a jeep safari and a nature trek. Overnight Bandipur

Day Five – 8th January

Start the day with an early bird watching walk and nature trek. After breakfast we visit IPAN animal shelter/farm, followed by a visit to a tea factory and lunch in Ooty. Drive on to Chinmaya Gardens Ashram in Coimbatore. Overnight Coimbatore

Day Six – 9th January

Today we enjoy ashram programs and also visit Chinmaya International school and nearby Isha Foundation. Overnight Coimbatore.

Day Seven – 10th January

Enjoy the scenery as we drive to the charming town of Fort Cochin. Overnight Cochin

Bandipur Wildlife Sanctuary

Day Eight – 11th January

Go on a guided tour of the town where you will see India’s oldest church and synagogue and other great sights. In the afternoon, there is free time to enjoy Cochin’s wonderful sights & shops, enjoy a massage. In the early evening, you will witness an unusual dance performance – Kathakali. Overnight Cochin

Day Nine – 12th January

This morning we drive to Alleppey to board our lovely houseboat for a relaxing cruise around Kerala’s backwaters. Enjoy a fascinating view of life as it is lived along the southern waterways. Overnight Houseboat

Day Ten to Twelve – 13th to 15th January

After breakfast on the houseboat, we drive to Chinmaya International Foundation,

maternal home of Adi Shankara, where we spend the next 3 days/nights enjoying satsang, chanting, meditation and other ashram programs. The pongal festival is on while we are staying there so we will be able to participate in the celebrations. Overnight Cochin

Day Thirteen – 16th January

Today we can enjoy the scenic drive to Munnar, the centre of lush tea plantations. Overnight Munnar

Day Fourteen – 17th January

Drive to Madurai where we have a late afternoon guided tour of the beautiful worldfamous Sri Meenakshi Temple. After dinner we return to the temple to witness the amazing nightly ceremony where Lord Shiva is ‘put to bed’. Overnight Madurai

Day Fifteen – 18th January

This morning we depart early for a day trip to Ramaswaram to partake of the cleansing ritual (to wash our karma away) and see some of the spiritual sights, before returning to Madurai for overnight. Overnight Madurai

Day Sixteen to Eighteen – 19th to 21st January

Drive to Tiruvannamalai where we stay 3 nights at Sri Ramana’s Ashram. Over the next few days you will visit the ashram shrine for vedic chanting the ancient temple, the caves where Ramana lived and the holy mountain Arunachula. Overnight Tiruvannamalai.

Day Nineteen – 22nd January

Today we drive to Chennai and visit the Chinmaya Centre there. En route, we will visit the Ekambareswarar temple in Kanchipuram. Depart for the airport after a final group dinner.
